Hornbeck Boats

We call our boats pack canoes but they have many kayak features. The paddler sits comfortably low in the boat, below water level, so body weight serves as stabilizing ballast. This position also means that less of the paddler's body is exposed to the wind and serving as an unwanted sail. The hull width is designed to be used with a double-bladed (kayak) paddle. Every stroke is a power stroke, eliminating corrective strokes necessary with a single-bladed paddle. The double-bladed paddle is a stabilizing brace in or near the water, on both sides at all times.

Hornbeck Boats are known for being light: most weigh less than 30 lbs., many weigh less than 20 lbs., and a few weigh less than 15 lbs.

Most of our boats are sold directly from our store here in Olmstedville, in the Adirondack Park of New York State. We ship the remainder around the country. Our boats are available in a range of lengths, widths, depths and weights so we can fit people to boats that are appropriate for their size and intended use (see Perfect Fit Program). We have a pond, a wide assortment of boats to demo, and knowledgeable staff to help you find the boat that's right for you.

So if you are seeking a boat that combines the best features of a canoe and a kayak, a boat that fits you perfectly, consider a Hornbeck.
